The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The supporters of Atlético Bucaramanga booed when CD Municipal was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mouricio Zuri didn't get a good kick on the ball. Polikarp Dovlatov made in the 10th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Jerson Gonzales immediately put the ball in play. Luizinho Paranaense made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Enrique Cassaretto in the 16th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Xacintu Ribeiro's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but George Forsyth was relentless in the 17th minute of the game. CD Municipal's Enrique Cassaretto got a good chance for a goal in the 42nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpected shot in the 45th minute by Xacintu Ribeiro got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Xacintu Ribeiro could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 46th minute of the match, but George Forsyth made a huge save. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Enrique Cassaretto made the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute of the game Mouricio Zuri made a throw-in which Iacob Roman played forward. In the 54th minute the ball was on its way in behind CD Municipal's goalkeeper George Forsyth, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 56th minute, Enrique Cassaretto got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jerson Gonzales in the 61st minute of play forced CD Municipal's goalkeeper George Forsyth to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 61 minutes into the match, CD Municipal's goal looked a bit too open when Jerson Gonzales came free, but George Forsyth reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Atlético Bucaramanga's Bernd Rechmann in the 95th minute got a chance for a shot 95th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie.
