The crowd rose to their feet as Kevin Keegan kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Pål Sefastsson. That made the score 1-0 in the 3 minute of play. Olov Wahlnäs showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carlos Alberto Tevez in the 8th minute of the match. Pål Sefastsson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kurt Hamrin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 12 minutes into the match, Skövde AIK's goal looked a bit too open when Tymoteusz Watarz came free, but Olov Wahlnäs reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Pål Sefastsson made a fantastic save in the 13th minute, when Kevin Keegan sent off a good shot on target. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tymoteusz Watarz in the 14th minute of play forced Skövde AIK's goalkeeper Olov Wahlnäs to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 17 minutes into the game, Carlos Alberto Tevez cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Olov Wahlnäs was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Olov Wahlnäs came out of the goal in the 21st minute to try and stop a shot by National Team Cape-Verde's Carlos Alberto Tevez. But to his dismay, Carlos Alberto Tevez quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. Chen Ao Fan struck a weak shot in the 25th minute. Pål Sefastsson didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Skövde AIK. 29 minutes into the match, National Team Cape-Verde's goalkeeper Pål Sefastsson had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Chen Ao Fan. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fredric Melander in the 32nd minute of play forced Skövde AIK's goalkeeper Olov Wahlnäs to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 32nd minute Fredric Melander shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Olov Wahlnäs saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With his leg Pål Sefastsson managed to avoid a goal in the 44thth minute, when Skövde AIK's Kevin Keegan fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Karl-Oskar Björkdal during the 44th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to National Team Cape-Verde getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Karl-Oskar Björkdal hit a great ball. Disappointed in the 1-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Kevin Keegan was the one to do the kick off. Skövde AIK's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Chen Ao Fan in the 53rd minute. After taking down the ball on Skövde AIK's corner Chen Ao Fan fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Pål Sefastsson quite easily take care of the ball. A collision led to Skövde AIK getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Georg Norström hit a great ball. National Team Cape-Verde's Klas Bergqvist was substituted for Fredric Melander. Skövde AIK's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Anton Vibjörnsson was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-3. After having played for 83 minutes, Klas Bergqvist managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. National Team Cape-Verde's supporters crossed their fingers, but Klas Bergqvist was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. National Team Cape-Verde's Pål Sefastsson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kevin Keegan in the 88th minute of play. Olov Wahlnäs showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bennvar Post in the 89th minute of the match. Klas Bergqvist scored 1-4 in the 93rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Olov Wahlnäs, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched National Team Cape-Verde eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
