The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Olov Wahlnäs made a fantastic save in the 4th minute, when Vilhelm Lidman sent off a good shot on target. 7 minutes into the match, Skövde AIK's goalkeeper Olov Wahlnäs had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Gunnar Hellström. In the 9th minute Kaj Ekegren shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Olov Wahlnäs saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Kaj Ekegren could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 13th minute of the match, but Olov Wahlnäs made a huge save. 15 minutes into the game, Vilhelm Lidman was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. SJÖARED's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Skövde AIK the free kick. Vilhelm Lidman hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. In the 25th minute Kaj Ekegren shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Olov Wahlnäs saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Through an outstanding action, after 26 minutes, Olov Wahlnäs successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Chen Ao Fan in the 33rd minute of play forced SJÖARED's goalkeeper Adrian Springfält to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kaj Ekegren in the 35th minute of play forced Skövde AIK's goalkeeper Olov Wahlnäs to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Tim Hellbom might have been able to make a better finish in the 37th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Olov Wahlnäs. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Tim Hellbom ran back to his position shaking his head. Olov Wahlnäs took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kaj Ekegren, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Through an outstanding action, after 42 minutes, Olov Wahlnäs successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. After a rather tough play, Skövde AIK's Georg Norström got a free kick in the 45th minute. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Kevin Keegan to make the kick off. A hard shot 52 in the game by Chen Ao Fan from a close distance when the talented Adrian Springfält managed to make a qualified save. SJÖARED's players were relieved. SJÖARED made a substitution. Ola Hansson replaced Tim Hellbom. The supporters of SJÖARED booed when Skövde AIK was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 59 match minutes in a wonderful position. Georg Norström didn't get a good kick on the ball. 61 minutes into the game, Kaj Ekegren cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Olov Wahlnäs was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Skövde AIK's Jerry Williams was substituted for Chen Ao Fan. 66 minutes into the match, Skövde AIK's goal looked a bit too open when Vilhelm Lidman came free, but Olov Wahlnäs reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Olov Wahlnäs showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ola Hansson in the 68th minute of the match. Skövde AIK's Olov Wahlnäs played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Vilhelm Lidman in the 69th minute of play. SJÖARED made a substitution. After having played for 91 minutes, Urban Rudberg managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SJÖARED's supporters crossed their fingers, but Urban Rudberg was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Gunnar Hellström's late challenge caught a Skövde AIK's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gunnar Hellström helped the player get up and apologised.
