After 7 played minutes Velez Sarsfield got a freekick which was hit by Arnoldo Mel. Teodosio Sergi made an important save on a dangerous shot by Poul Stanković in the 11th minute. After 12 played minutes Velez Sarsfield got a freekick which was hit by Arnoldo Mel. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Augusto Cordario in the 15th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Santo Lano prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Velez Sarsfield's goalie and right to Alberto Arósio. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Velez Sarsfield's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Alfredinho Rosa's late challenge caught a Velez Sarsfield's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Alfredinho Rosa helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Clube Audax Metropolitano's Alfredinho Rosa got a free kick in the 26th minute. Velez Sarsfield's Sun Zhi Zhen got a good chance for a goal in the 27th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 32nd minute of the game. One of Velez Sarsfield:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Clube Audax Metropolitano:s goal. Velez Sarsfield:s Teodosio Sergi showed great skill when he stopped Poul Stanković:s penalty. Clube Audax Metropolitano's Santo Lano played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Augusto Cordario in the 34th minute of play. After 37 played minutes Clube Audax Metropolitano got a freekick which was hit by Alfredinho Rosa. Santo Lano made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Augusto Cordario in the 47th minute of play. 47 minutes into the game, Velez Sarsfield's Augusto Cordario nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Santo Lano made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Emirşah Berkman to make the kick off. A throw-in in the 52nd minute of the game was made by Sergio Chus with Betinho Tróia as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. After 54 minutes of play, Velez Sarsfield's Augusto Cordario made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Santo Lano was left in no man's land by his defense there! An unexpectedly hard shot by Emirşah Berkman in the 57th minute of play forced Velez Sarsfield's goalkeeper Teodosio Sergi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Emirşah Berkman took the ball and in the 57 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Teodosio Sergi. Teodosio Sergi dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. Augusto Cordario made a well adjusted shot against goal in the 61stth minute coming free in front of the goal, but Santo Lano would not let the ball come through at any expense and made a nice save by the left post. Clube Audax Metropolitano's Santo Lano proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 68th minute of the match, managed to save Clube Audax Metropolitano from getting a goal against them. After some fancy dribbling in the 72nd minute, Emirşah Berkman managed to get in a good position for a shot. Clube Audax Metropolitano's supporters rose to their feet, but Emirşah Berkman was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Teodosio Sergi breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Velez Sarsfield's Teodosio Sergi played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Pedro Prestes in the 77th minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Maicon Mattos in the 80th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Teodosio Sergi saved Velez Sarsfield from getting behind. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pedro Prestes in the 85th minute of play forced Velez Sarsfield's goalkeeper Teodosio Sergi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 88 minutes, Marcos Pacifico mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Velez Sarsfield and the Clube Audax Metropolitano players grew even worse after the yellow card.
