The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Dalmo Rocha was the one to do the kick off. With a little luck, Galo do Japi's Benedito Nóbrega got control of the ball when Paulo Renato Souza tried to sneak it across the goal line. Nova Iguaçu MZFC's Mauro de Salles played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eurico Garcia in the 56th minute of play. Juvenal Novaes hit a great freekick 69 minutes into the match. Carlos Alberto Favoretto, 70 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Nova Iguaçu MZFC's Dalmo Rocha got a good chance for a goal in the 73rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 77 played minutes, Nova Iguaçu MZFC's Zé Carlos Cordeiro shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Benedito Nóbrega came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Nova Iguaçu MZFC reached it. In the 77th minute Wilson Vidal suffered a foot injury and had to be helped off the field. After 79 played minutes Galo do Japi got a freekick which was hit by Isaltino de Mendonça. 80 minutes into the match, Nova Iguaçu MZFC's Dudu Queiroz broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. 83 minutes into the match, Galo do Japi's goal looked a bit too open when Dalmo Rocha came free, but Benedito Nóbrega reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. The crowd rose to their feet as Nova Iguaçu MZFC's Dalmo Rocha slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Benedito Nóbrega. That made the score 1-5 after 86 minutes of play. Paulo Renato Souza could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 91st minute of the match, but Benedito Nóbrega made a huge save.
