Kaká Lopes was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 19th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Júnior Alagoano. Júnior Alagoano's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Kaká Lopes read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 22nd minute of play. The audience was convinced that Cafu Catarinense's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Doni Seco was relentless in the 24th minute of the game. Giovani Pinheiro was shown his second yellow card after 25 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. After 25 played minutes Jenipapo SC got a freekick which was hit by Giovani Pinheiro. Marcelo Eger recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 26th minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Castanheiro SC's Marcelo Eger slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Kaká Lopes. That made the score 2-0 after 37 minutes of play. In the 42nd minute, Mauro Sarmento reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Kaká Lopes. The goal made the score 3-0. After having played for 45 minutes, Cafu Catarinense managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Jenipapo SC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cafu Catarinense was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.

Castanheiro SC's supporters rose to their feet, but Marcelo Eger was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Kaká Lopes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.
