In the 16th minute, Vladimiro Lauro ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Edwin van der Sar was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Roque Vito was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Jerónimo Furtado was the one to do the kick off. Edwin van der Sar made a fantastic save in the 52nd minute, when Marek Torm sent off a good shot on target. Edwin van der Sar stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ladislao Erramu's shot from short distance in the 90th minute. Edwin van der Sar made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ladislao Erramu in the 91st minute of play.
