Iosif Panescu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Jonny Logan in the 3rd minute of the match. In the 6th minute of the match FC BaLiSt got a corner. Valencia C.F.'s goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Ionel Manafu ran over to the corner to take the kick. Lin Yang tried to clear up in front of the goal, but didn't succeed and rather the ball rolled into the own goal to the right of a despaired Andoni Zubizarreta. An unnecessary self made goal, 1-0 in the 7th minute. The supporters of Valencia C.F. booed when FC BaLiSt was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rolando Ostots didn't get a good kick on the ball. Through an outstanding action, after 13 minutes, Andoni Zubizarreta successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Iosif Panescu didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Florentin Gougeon went, in the 18th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. Iosif Panescu stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Florentin Gougeon's shot from short distance in the 23rd minute. Andoni Zubizarreta took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Xiao Chao Yan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 34th minute Xiao Chao Yan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Andoni Zubizarreta saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 37 minutes, Florentin Gougeon made it 1-3 with a short kick to the right side. FC BaLiSt's Iosif Panescu tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Andoni Zubizarreta showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Xiao Chao Yan, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. 43 minutes into the game, Jonny Logan was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Valencia C.F.'s manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC BaLiSt the free kick. FC BaLiSt's Rešo Lucio was substituted for Ionel Manafu. A collision led to Valencia C.F. getting a freekick after 44 minutes play. Jonny Logan hit a great ball. With his leg Andoni Zubizarreta managed to avoid a goal in the 46thth minute, when FC BaLiSt's Aurelian Grozuță fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. 47 minutes into the match, Valencia C.F.'s goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Xiao Chao Yan. Disappointed in the 1-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jonny Logan to make the kick off. In the 51st minute, Florentin Gougeon reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Iosif Panescu. The goal made the score 1-4. Andoni Zubizarreta took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Aurelian Grozuță, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 64th minute, Florentin Gougeon managed to get in a good position for a shot. Valencia C.F.'s supporters rose to their feet, but Florentin Gougeon was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Iosif Panescu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Iosif Panescu came out of the goal in the 65th minute to try and stop a shot by Valencia C.F.'s Jonny Logan. But to his dismay, Jonny Logan quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-6. Andoni Zubizarreta made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Xiao Chao Yan in the 70th minute of play. 73 minutes into the match, Valencia C.F.'s goal looked a bit too open when Maxim Oprescu came free, but Andoni Zubizarreta reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Maxim Oprescu in the 74th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Andoni Zubizarreta saved Valencia C.F. from getting behind. After a defensive mix-up in FC BaLiSt's zone, Florentin Gougeon stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Iosif Panescu came out of the goal and Florentin Gougeon tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Valencia C.F.'s Rodrigo Moreno was substituted for Jonny Logan. After having played for 79 minutes, Rodrigo Moreno managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Valencia C.F.'s supporters crossed their fingers, but Rodrigo Moreno was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 82nd minute Maxim Oprescu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Andoni Zubizarreta saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Valencia C.F.'s Gaz Askew got a free kick in the 83rd minute. FC BaLiSt's Cosmin Dragu was substituted for Octavian Paulescu. Colin Buckler received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Iosif Panescu came out and tried to block the shot, but Colin Buckler slotted it home off the left post making it 1-7 in the 90th minute. In the 93rd minute the ball was on its way in behind FC BaLiSt's goalkeeper Iosif Panescu, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Valencia C.F. walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
