The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 2nd match minute, London Lions was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Laurence Perryman to maneuver through the defense. 5 minutes into the match, London Lions's goal looked a bit too open when Yu Jie Xing came free, but Bogdan Ghimpu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 12 played minutes London Lions got a freekick which was hit by Borys Jaworski. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Yu Jie Xing in the 13th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Bogdan Ghimpu saved London Lions from getting behind. In the 14th minute of the match Staffordshire Terrier FC got a corner. London Lions's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Brice Gamble ran over to the corner to take the kick. After a rather tough play, London Lions's Laurence Perryman got a free kick in the 15th minute. Bogdan Ghimpu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Yu Jie Xing, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. In the 20th minute, Yu Jie Xing ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Bogdan Ghimpu was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Bogdan Ghimpu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Yu Jie Xing in the 25th minute of the match. Bogdan Ghimpu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Yu Jie Xing, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. After some careless play in the London Lions defense, Yu Jie Xing kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Bogdan Ghimpu. The London Lions fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Bogdan Ghimpu should have stopped the shot. Matt Sullivan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Bogdan Ghimpu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Yu Jie Xing sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Yu Jie Xing blasted a shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Bogdan Ghimpu having to make a save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Yu Jie Xing in the 42nd minute of play forced London Lions's goalkeeper Bogdan Ghimpu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 47th minute Yu Jie Xing shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bogdan Ghimpu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

When Nathan Griffin fell near the penalty area in the 52nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored London Lions's protests and gave Nathan Griffin a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Staffordshire Terrier FC booed when London Lions was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 81 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rupert Rundle didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Alex Zanardi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 88 minutes into the game, Oakley Smith cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-5. Bogdan Ghimpu was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Alex Zanardi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out.
