Diamantino Reis's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Filipe Travassos read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 7th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Juventudes Libertárias's zone, Rodrigo Magalhães stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dedê Trigo came out of the goal and Rodrigo Magalhães tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ronaldinho de Amaral sent away a hard shot on goal in the 13th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Juventudes Libertárias booed when Internazionale-RS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 14 match minutes in a wonderful position. Horácio Oliveira didn't get a good kick on the ball. Luís Eduardo Furlan hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. When Josué Tavares came up free with the goalie in the 20th minute, the Juventudes Libertárias fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Josué Tavares couldn't finish the play. After 22 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Juventudes Libertárias! 29 minutes into the match, Internazionale-RS's Jorginho Soares sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Dedê Trigo narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 30th minute, Jorginho Soares left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Internazionale-RS fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. The audience was convinced that Jorginho Soares's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Dedê Trigo was relentless in the 32nd minute of the game. After 34 minutes Juventudes Libertárias's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Luís Eduardo Figueiredo who took care of the corner kick. 39 minutes into the match, Jorginho Soares notched a goal, 0-3, to the right of Juventudes Libertárias's Dedê Trigo. Dedê Trigo was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Luís Meirelles to strike the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Juventudes Libertárias booed when Internazionale-RS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luís Eduardo Furlan didn't get a good kick on the ball. 53 minutes into the game, Luizão Sarmento was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Juventudes Libertárias's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Internazionale-RS the free kick. After a rather tough play, Juventudes Libertárias's Luizão Sarmento got a free kick in the 53rd minute. Jorginho Soares fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dedê Trigo having to interfere. Rodrigo Magalhães struck a weak shot in the 60th minute. Dedê Trigo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Internazionale-RS. Dedê Trigo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jorginho Soares, who was totally free with the ball in the 66th minute. After having played for 77 minutes, Jorginho Soares managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Internazionale-RS's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jorginho Soares was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Dedê Trigo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jorginho Soares in the 82nd minute of play. When Ronaldinho de Amaral came up free with the goalie in the 86th minute, the Internazionale-RS fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ronaldinho de Amaral couldn't finish the play. In the 87th minute, Renatinho Maranhense hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 88th minute, Jorginho Soares managed to get in a good position for a shot. Internazionale-RS's supporters rose to their feet, but Jorginho Soares was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dedê Trigo breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ronaldinho de Amaral sent away a hard shot on goal in the 89th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Jorginho Soares hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match. The Internazionale-RS supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Internazionale-RS would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
