MONTANHA's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tiaguinho Falcão was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 34 minutes into the match, MONTANHA's goalkeeper Sílvio Sarmento had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ladislao Mazurkiewicz. João Carlos Gaspar received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Sílvio Sarmento tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Tostão Munhoz during the 39th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, MONTANHA's Tostão Munhoz got a free kick in the 39th minute. A collision led to S.E.R. Caxias do Sul getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Remo Valle hit a great ball. Tiaguinho Falcão was probably a little too eager to shoot when he, in the 42nd played minute, shot the ball from way out. The shot was hard, but the ball flew wide of the goal. 43 minutes into the game, Ivo Mello was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave MONTANHA the free kick. The supporters of MONTANHA booed when S.E.R. Caxias do Sul was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ivo Mello didn't get a good kick on the ball. 47 minutes into the match, Leopoldo Sanches dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Sílvio Sarmento, 2-0.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Tostão Munhoz to strike the kick off in the second half. Sílvio Sarmento showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from João Carlos Gaspar, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. In the 58th minute, Leopoldo Sanches ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Sílvio Sarmento was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-0. Sílvio Sarmento took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from João Carlos Gaspar, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Remo Valle fell near the penalty area in the 62nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's protests and gave Remo Valle a yellow card for diving instead. Remo Valle hit a great freekick 62 minutes into the match. After recieving a nice pass, MONTANHA's Tiaguinho Falcão tried to score from far away in the 63rd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. When Valdomiro Valladares fell near the penalty area in the 64th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored MONTANHA's protests and gave Valdomiro Valladares a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, MONTANHA's Valdomiro Valladares got a free kick in the 65th minute. Sílvio Sarmento stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Leopoldo Sanches's shot from short distance in the 66th minute. In the 67th minute, Valdomiro Oliveira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Leopoldo Sanches had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When João Carlos Gaspar got free in front of the goal in the 76th minute he wasn't very focused and chipped the ball just over the goal. Sílvio Sarmento was delighted since he was out of position and the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. In the 77thth minute of the game Leopoldo Sanches who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but MONTANHA's Sílvio Sarmento was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. João Carlos Gaspar recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 81st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Valdomiro Valladares was shown his second yellow card after 83 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. A collision led to MONTANHA getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. Valdomiro Valladares hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Leopoldo Sanches in the 87th minute of play forced MONTANHA's goalkeeper Sílvio Sarmento to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sílvio Sarmento made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Leopoldo Sanches in the 90th minute of play. Sílvio Sarmento showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Leopoldo Sanches in the 92nd minute of the match. MONTANHA's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
