When Luizão Prata fell near the penalty area in the 4th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's protests and gave Luizão Prata a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Internazionale-RS booed when S.E.R. Caxias do Sul was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 4 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luizão Prata didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 7th minute, Internazionale-RS's Celsinho Britto seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Celsinho Britto the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Internazionale-RS protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Celsinho Britto had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 7th minute of the game. One of Internazionale-RS:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of S.E.R. Caxias do Sul:s goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when João Carlos Gaspar got free with Filipe Travassos in the 12th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Luís Eduardo Figueiredo kicked well hit freekick during the 12th minute of the match. Filipe Travassos showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Leopoldo Sanches in the 16th minute of the match. Through an outstanding action, after 21 minutes, Filipe Travassos successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Ronaldinho de Amaral sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jorginho Soares kicked well hit freekick during the 24th minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Leopoldo Sanches in the 32nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Filipe Travassos saved Internazionale-RS from getting behind. An unexpectedly hard shot by Leopoldo Sanches in the 42nd minute of play forced Internazionale-RS's goalkeeper Filipe Travassos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 46 minutes into the match, Internazionale-RS's goalkeeper Filipe Travassos had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Ladislao Mazurkiewicz. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jorginho Soares in the 47th minute of play forced S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

Caxias do Sul was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Túlio Negri to maneuver through the defense. Gianluigi Donnarumma made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jorginho Soares in the 66th minute. The corner first didn't look so dangerous but when Rodolfo Pontes got the ball he succeeded in some way to get through the defenders to deliver a very hard score. Ronaldinho de Amaral charged in rather forcefully in the 79th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ronaldinho de Amaral the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 79th minute, Ronaldinho de Amaral hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 83 minutes, Bruno Santana mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Internazionale-RS and the S.E.R. Caxias do Sul players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Internazionale-RS getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. Leopoldo Sanches recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 97th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The Internazionale-RS players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
