Vatan Enfal started the match with the kick off. 8 minutes into the match, Colo-Colo's goalkeeper Rambo Ramírez had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Vatan Enfal. Vatan Enfal received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Rambo Ramírez came out and tried to block the shot, but Vatan Enfal slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 8th minute. Anton Björnberg showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rubén Martínez in the 11th minute of the match. The corner ended in Honorio Droguett almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Inter de Chillán's Anton Björnberg did a great save. After a defensive mix-up in Inter de Chillán's zone, Rubén Martínez stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Anton Björnberg came out of the goal and Rubén Martínez tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Rubén Martínez came up free with the goalie in the 16th minute, the Colo-Colo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rubén Martínez couldn't finish the play. Colo-Colo's Rambo Ramírez proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 20th minute of the match, managed to save Colo-Colo from getting a goal against them. Rubén Martínez scored 1-1 in the 25th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Anton Björnberg, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 39 minutes had been played when some careless play by Inter de Chillán's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Honorio Droguett was slow to take the kick. During this time Colo-Colo's players had a chance to rest. If Vatan Enfal had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 45th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

In the 56th minute of the game Marco-Antonio Etcheverry made a throw-in which Rubén Martínez played forward. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Rubén Martínez in the 60th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Anton Björnberg prevented the ball from getting in the gole. A collision led to Colo-Colo getting a freekick after 64 minutes play. Tomislav Parev hit a great ball. Rambo Ramírez showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rickard Erserman in the 66th minute of the match. In the 75th minute, Rickard Erserman left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Inter de Chillán fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. Colo-Colo's José Julio Almeida was substituted for Marco-Antonio Etcheverry. In the 84th minute of the match Colo-Colo got a corner. Inter de Chillán's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Honorio Droguett ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner first didn't look so dangerous but when Faustão Prestes got the ball he succeeded in some way to get through the defenders to deliver a very hard score. Result 2-2. 84 minutes into the match. Colo-Colo's Rambo Ramírez played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Samuel Abel in the 87th minute of play. Carlitos Caszely received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Anton Björnberg tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
