Andy Maes received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 3rd minute. Gürhan Yücel tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gürhan Yücel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ivor Sadler, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 6th minute Jan Rein van Loo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gürhan Yücel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Vasile Ştefănuţ kicked well hit freekick during the 7th minute of the match. AFC Chievo Verona's Gürhan Yücel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jan Rein van Loo in the 11th minute of play. After 16 minutes of play, ASC Amsterdam's Jan Rein van Loo made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Gürhan Yücel was left in no man's land by his defense there! Gürhan Yücel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jan Rein van Loo, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. After having played for 22 minutes, Paul Poate managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. AFC Chievo Verona's supporters crossed their fingers, but Paul Poate was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After some careless play in the AFC Chievo Verona defense, William Raynard kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Gürhan Yücel. The AFC Chievo Verona fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Gürhan Yücel should have stopped the shot. 30 minutes into the game, Andy Maes was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. ASC Amsterdam's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave AFC Chievo Verona the free kick. After 30 played minutes ASC Amsterdam got a freekick which was hit by Andy Maes. In the 33rd minute, Bart Smith hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, ASC Amsterdam's Vasile Ştefănuţ got a free kick in the 38th minute. In the 40th minute, Hugh Kennedy reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Mazhar Uğurata. The goal made the score 2-2. In the 43rd minute, Hugh Kennedy hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of AFC Chievo Verona booed when ASC Amsterdam was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Andy Maes didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paul Poate in the 46th minute of play forced ASC Amsterdam's goalkeeper Mazhar Uğurata to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The score stood at 2-2 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Hugh Kennedy to make the kick off. Ivor Sadler who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 94thth minute tested the skills of Gürhan Yücel when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched ASC Amsterdam eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
