Marcelo Galvão was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Itajaí Football Club's Carlos Eduardo da Costa was substituted for Marcelinho de Salles. In the 57th minute, Andreas Piovezan hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Andreas Piovezan's late challenge caught a New England Minas's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Andreas Piovezan helped the player get up and apologised. After a rather tough play, Itajaí Football Club's Andreas Piovezan got a free kick in the 61st minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Carlos Eduardo da Costa in the 65th minute of play forced New England Minas's goalkeeper Jeremy Nicholas to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. New England Minas had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
