Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Benito Naldo in the 15th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck August Hoffmanns prevented the ball from getting in the gole. With a little luck, Madison's Severiano Rafe got control of the ball when Hugo Haupt tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mesut Özil in the 39th minute of play forced Madison's goalkeeper Severiano Rafe to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 65th match minute, Madison was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Brahim Boutabout to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Maximilian Henning in the 66th minute of play forced Madison's goalkeeper Severiano Rafe to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Madison's supporters crossed their fingers, but Benito Naldo was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ege Træet hit a great freekick 85 minutes into the match. Mesut Özil kicked well hit freekick during the 88th minute of the match. Benito Naldo blasted a shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without August Hoffmanns having to make a save. August Hoffmanns showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Benito Naldo, who was totally free with the ball in the 90th minute. After a rather tough play, Madison's Cristobal Chumo got a free kick in the 90th minute. Severiano Rafe stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Anestis Kotsopoulos's shot from short distance in the 92nd minute. When the match clock showed 92 minutes, the score became 2-1 when Anestis Kotsopoulos sped through Madison's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Severiano Rafe.

Rot-Weiss-Essen's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
