José Bomba started the match with the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by José Bomba in the 3rd minute of play forced C.A.Esparta's goalkeeper Evelio Salvadore to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Felix Orlan blasted a shot towards the goal in the 5th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Miguel Poças having to make a save. After 6 minutes, José Bomba mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the F.C. Paços de Ferreira and the C.A.Esparta players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 7 played minutes F.C. Paços de Ferreira got a freekick which was hit by José Bomba. 7 minutes into the match, F.C. Paços de Ferreira's goalkeeper Miguel Poças had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Felix Orlan. Oswaldo Junior's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Miguel Poças firmly grabbed it by the left post. 20 minutes into the match, José Bomba notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of C.A.Esparta's Evelio Salvadore. Evelio Salvadore was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Oswaldo Junior could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 22nd minute of the match, but Miguel Poças made a huge save. Luis Galván kicked well hit freekick during the 22nd minute of the match. With a little luck, F.C. Paços de Ferreira's Miguel Poças got control of the ball when Oswaldo Junior tried to sneak it across the goal line. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Felix Orlan to make the kick off. Miguel Poças stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Oswaldo Junior's shot from short distance in the 55th minute. Luis Galván took the ball and in the 64 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Miguel Poças. Miguel Poças dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. After 70 minutes F.C. Paços de Ferreira's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Ronaldo Queirós who took care of the corner kick. Evelio Salvadore made a fantastic save in the 71st minute, when Inácio Secco sent off a good shot on target. Evelio Salvadore made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from José Bomba in the 74th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 74th minute, José Bomba managed to get in a good position for a shot. F.C. Paços de Ferreira's supporters rose to their feet, but José Bomba was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Evelio Salvadore breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Adrian Arotza in the 79th minute of play forced F.C.
