The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Linus Fredriksson in the 6th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Óscar Cordoba saved Sporting de Gijón from getting behind. In the 8th minute, Linus Fredriksson ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Óscar Cordoba was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Venancio Emesto during the 10th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Venancio Emesto kicked well hit freekick during the 11th minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Linus Fredriksson in the 12th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Óscar Cordoba saved Sporting de Gijón from getting behind. Sporting de Gijón's Óscar Cordoba played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Aybek Orcun in the 15th minute of play. Óscar Cordoba showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Giovanni Rana, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. Óscar Cordoba showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Linus Fredriksson in the 18th minute of the match. A collision led to Marlin FC getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Giovanni Rana hit a great ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Matias Bilintx in the 23rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Juan Carlos Alvarez saved Marlin FC from getting behind. After 23rd play minutes Matias Bilintx shot 1-1, a short shot which went by Juan Carlos Alvarez and just under the crossbar into goal. After 26 minutes of play, Marlin FC's Linus Fredriksson made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Óscar Cordoba was left in no man's land by his defense there! Óscar Cordoba made an important save on a dangerous shot by Yin Yang in the 30th minute. After 32 minutes Sporting de Gijón's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Ismael Iglesias who took care of the corner kick. After a rather tough play, Sporting de Gijón's Venancio Emesto got a free kick in the 33rd minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Linus Fredriksson in the 39th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Óscar Cordoba saved Sporting de Gijón from getting behind. In the 40th match minute, Sporting de Gijón was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Matias Bilintx to maneuver through the defense. When Dionisio Panpili came up free with the goalie in the 43rd minute, the Marlin FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dionisio Panpili couldn't finish the play. When Sporting de Gijón's Venancio Emesto in the 47th minute got a chance for a shot 47th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Marlin FC's goalie prevented a goal. Sporting de Gijón's Carlo Crema was substituted for Venancio Emesto. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Matias Bilintx made the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Sporting de Gijón's Diego Maradona got a free kick in the 55th minute. Óscar Cordoba took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ismael Iglesias, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Óscar Cordoba showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Yin Yang, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. In the 66th minute, Linus Fredriksson got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 68 minutes into the game, Diego Maradona was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sporting de Gijón's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Marlin FC the free kick. In the 68th minute, Diego Maradona hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Sporting de Gijón's Carolo Ovando was substituted for Saturnino Curcio. Diego Maradona hit a great freekick 70 minutes into the match. In the 71st minute, Linus Fredriksson made a precise shot to the right of Óscar Cordoba. Sporting de Gijón's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-2. Óscar Cordoba showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Yin Yang in the 74th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Marlin FC's zone, Matias Bilintx stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Juan Carlos Alvarez came out of the goal and Matias Bilintx tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Óscar Cordoba took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Yin Yang, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Sporting de Gijón's Óscar Cordoba played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Linus Fredriksson in the 83rd minute of play. After some careless play in the Sporting de Gijón defense, Dionisio Panpili kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Óscar Cordoba. The Sporting de Gijón fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Óscar Cordoba should have stopped the shot. In the 87th minute Wayne Rooney shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Juan Carlos Alvarez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to Marlin FC getting a freekick after 93 minutes play. Melchor Oidor hit a great ball. Sporting de Gijón's Alejandro Rufo couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 94th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Marlin FC. Dionisio Panpili recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 96th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Óscar Cordoba showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dionisio Panpili in the 98th minute of the match. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Marlin FC fans cheered their team off the field, for while Sporting de Gijón had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
