The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Emiliano Martinez during the 53rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to FC Yucatan Chichén Itzá getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Emiliano Martinez hit a great ball. Al Capone took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 54th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Trần Cong Vinh. Trần Cong Vinh made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Florentin Gougeon in the 56th minute of play. 58 minutes into the match, Florentin Gougeon had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Trần Cong Vinh. FC Yucatan Chichén Itzá's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Florentin Gougeon was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-0. Florentin Gougeon's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Trần Cong Vinh read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 62nd minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Florentin Gougeon in the 73rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Trần Cong Vinh saved FC Yucatan Chichén Itzá from getting behind. 78 minutes into the match, Valencia C.F.'s goal looked a bit too open when Emiliano Martinez came free, but Santiago Cañizares reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Florentin Gougeon took the ball and in the 87 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Trần Cong Vinh. Trần Cong Vinh dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 5-0. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Valencia C.F. had won after a very even match.
