The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Mariano Lacasa could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 3rd minute of the match, but Nechifor Păunescu made a huge save. When Mariano Lacasa came up free with the goalie in the 4th minute, the Chile fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Mariano Lacasa couldn't finish the play. In the 6thth minute of the game Cezar Cucu who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Chile's Thiago Pliego was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 8th match minute, Chile was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Pedro Indiano to maneuver through the defense. 21 minutes into the match, Fotbal Club Otelul Galati's goalkeeper Nechifor Păunescu had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Mariano Lacasa. Thiago Pliego took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cezar Cucu, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 28 minutes, Liviu Şteţ mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Fotbal Club Otelul Galati and the Chile players grew even worse after the yellow card. With a little luck, Fotbal Club Otelul Galati's Nechifor Păunescu got control of the ball when Mariano Lacasa tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 31st minute the ball was on its way in behind Chile's goalkeeper Thiago Pliego, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 33 minutes had been played when some careless play by Chile's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Doru Barna was slow to take the kick. During this time Fotbal Club Otelul Galati's players had a chance to rest. After taking down the ball on Fotbal Club Otelul Galati's corner Doru Barna fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Thiago Pliego quite easily take care of the ball. In the 37th minute, Mariano Lacasa made a precise shot to the right of Nechifor Păunescu. Fotbal Club Otelul Galati's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. Guillermo Fontirroig received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Nechifor Păunescu tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cezar Cucu in the 46th minute of play forced Chile's goalkeeper Thiago Pliego to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

57 minutes into the match, Fotbal Club Otelul Galati's goal looked a bit too open when Mariano Lacasa came free, but Nechifor Păunescu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Nechifor Păunescu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mariano Lacasa in the 63rd minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cezar Cucu got free with Thiago Pliego in the 65th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Fotbal Club Otelul Galati's Nechifor Păunescu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mariano Lacasa in the 67th minute of play. Mariano Lacasa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 70th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 70 minutes into the match, Fotbal Club Otelul Galati's goal looked a bit too open when Mariano Lacasa came free, but Nechifor Păunescu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 75 minutes Chile's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Doru Barna who took care of the corner kick. In the 78th minute Mariano Lacasa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nechifor Păunescu saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nechifor Păunescu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Orlando Casaus, who was totally free with the ball in the 81st minute. Cezar Cucu made a well adjusted shot against goal in the 83rdth minute coming free in front of the goal, but Thiago Pliego would not let the ball come through at any expense and made a nice save by the left post. Thiago Pliego made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Petre Săliştean in the 84th minute of play. Thiago Pliego showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Gelu Alexandrescu, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute. Guillermo Fontirroig hit a great freekick 88 minutes into the match. Fotbal Club Otelul Galati made a substitution. Iustin Anghelescu replaced Gelu Alexandrescu. In the 89th minute, Guillermo Fontirroig hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Nechifor Păunescu came out of the goal in the 91st minute to try and stop a shot by Chile's Mariano Lacasa. But to his dismay, Mariano Lacasa quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. Chile's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
