The audience thought a goal was coming when Ethan Stiles got free with Marcos Cotilla in the 14th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 15th minute of the match, Tony Froggatt tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Marcos Cotilla saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Alex Cambeiro charged in rather forcefully in the 17th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Alex Cambeiro the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 17 played minutes Panama got a freekick which was hit by Alex Cambeiro. Ethan Stiles's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Marcos Cotilla read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 19th minute of play. After 21 minutes, Matthew Garrido mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Panama and the FC Shakhtar Donetsk players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Panama getting a freekick after 21 minutes play. Matthew Garrido hit a great ball. Marcos Cotilla showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Doug Holyfield, who was totally free with the ball in the 21st minute. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Tomas Berganza was the one to do the kick off. FC Shakhtar Donetsk's Harvey Smith played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Miguel Miralles in the 59th minute of play. Abraham Alguacil fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Harvey Smith having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tomas Berganza got free with Harvey Smith in the 65th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Damien Blake's late challenge caught a Panama's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. After some careless play in the FC Shakhtar Donetsk defense, Tomas Berganza kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Harvey Smith.
