Kazimierz Falkowski was slow to take the kick. During this time Brokopondo's players had a chance to rest. Mauro Esteves made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 13th minute of play. In the 16th minute of the match, Andrzej Klawki got a very nice opportunity to score, but Julio Vera was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Brokopondo's Mauro Esteves played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Felix Montenegro in the 30th minute of play. Julio Vera didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Stefan Bejrut went, in the 32nd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 36th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mauro Esteves having to interfere. In the 44th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Antonio Arias to maneuver through the defense. In the 45th minute, Stefan Bejrut got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Brokopondo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eugeniusz Czapski didn't get a good kick on the ball. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.
