The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Amir Chandran made in the 21st minute of the game a sloppy throw-in which Steven Boon however managed to control. Steven Boon received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Jonathan Ferrant came out and tried to block the shot, but Steven Boon slotted it home off the left post making it 2-0 in the 37th minute.

Brighton's Garry Vercauteren proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 53rd minute of the match, managed to save Brighton from getting a goal against them. Tomas Illescas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Garry Vercauteren having to interfere. Venezuela's Jonathan Venegas managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Muhammad Kang in the 56 minute of the game. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 61 minutes into the game, Brighton's Alfred Hitchcock nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jonathan Ferrant made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-0. Venezuela's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Alfred Hitchcock was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-0. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tomas Illescas got free with Garry Vercauteren in the 72nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 75th minute Tomas Illescas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Garry Vercauteren saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 78 minutes into the game, Brighton's Alfred Hitchcock nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jonathan Ferrant made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 5-0. After a rather tough play, Venezuela's Jose Correa got a free kick in the 94th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 95th minute, Alfred Hitchcock managed to get in a good position for a shot. Brighton's supporters rose to their feet, but Alfred Hitchcock was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jonathan Ferrant breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. There was no doubt that Brighton were the better team. Brighton's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
