Jonathan Ferrant made a fantastic save in the 5th minute, when Richard Edström sent off a good shot on target. Jonathan Ferrant took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Richard Edström, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Venezuela's Tomas Illescas got a good chance for a goal in the 9th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Tomas Illescas came up free with the goalie in the 11th minute, the Venezuela fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomas Illescas couldn't finish the play. Paredes Goiano took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tomas Illescas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ulf Tingelholm recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 17th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Richard Edström in the 23rd minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 26th minute Richard Edström shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 28th minute Tomas Illescas shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Paredes Goiano saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Salvador Gisbert during the 29th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 30 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Salvador Gisbert. After having played for 31 minutes, Richard Edström managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Manchester City's supporters crossed their fingers, but Richard Edström was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Alf Möllgren sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Richard Edström, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. In the 47thth minute of the game Richard Edström who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Paredes Goiano showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Patricio Costa in the 52nd minute of the match. Ulf Tingelholm sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Richard Edström struck a weak shot in the 67th minute. Jonathan Ferrant didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Manchester City. Tomas Illescas might have been able to make a better finish in the 70th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Paredes Goiano. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Tomas Illescas ran back to his position shaking his head. Jonathan Ferrant showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Richard Edström in the 71st minute of the match. 74 minutes into the game, Tomas Illescas recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Paredes Goiano. Tomas Illescas showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-1. After 77 played minutes Manchester City got a freekick which was hit by Egon Browald. 80 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Alf Möllgren came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Patricio Costa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Paredes Goiano having to interfere. A hard shot 89 in the game by Tomas Illescas from a close distance when the talented Paredes Goiano managed to make a qualified save. Manchester City's players were relieved. Tomas Illescas could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 90th minute of the match, but Paredes Goiano made a huge save. Tomas Illescas took the ball and in the 90 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Paredes Goiano. Paredes Goiano dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. After having played for 96 minutes, Richard Edström managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Manchester City's supporters crossed their fingers, but Richard Edström was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Although Manchester City had been in control for most of the match, Venezuela still came away with the win.
