Herbert Hilhorst made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tomas Illescas in the 9th minute of play. Tomas Illescas scored 0-1 in the 9th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Herbert Hilhorst, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 18 minutes into the match, Venezuela's Tomas Illescas sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Herbert Hilhorst narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After a rather tough play, Verwachting's Christijan Schreuder got a free kick in the 19th minute. Verwachting's Herbert Hilhorst played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tomas Illescas in the 22nd minute of play. Herbert Hilhorst showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Tomas Illescas, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. Guillermo Mariano hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Harm de Freitas in the 30th minute of play. Oliver van Kampen could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 41st minute of the match, but Jonathan Ferrant made a huge save. Ruud Geels recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 43rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 45 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Christijan Schreuder. 46 minutes into the match, Twan Hesseling dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Jonathan Ferrant, 1-1. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Rigoberto Mina hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. In the 57th minute Christijan Schreuder shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jonathan Ferrant saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tomas Illescas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. The supporters of Verwachting booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 68 match minutes in a wonderful position. Camilo Gaos didn't get a good kick on the ball. 78 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Twan Hesseling came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 79 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goal looked a bit too open when Ruud Geels came free, but Jonathan Ferrant reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 82 minutes into the match, Verwachting's goal looked a bit too open when Patricio Costa came free, but Herbert Hilhorst reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ruud Geels in the 94th minute of play. Venezuela's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
