Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 5th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Christijan Schreuder could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 6th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. In the 10th match minute, Verwachting was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vincent Koekkoek to maneuver through the defense. Daniel Zorita took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 10th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Herbert Hilhorst. Verwachting's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Agustín Saelices struck a weak shot in the 13th minute. Herbert Hilhorst didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. Christijan Schreuder came free with the goalkeeper in the 17th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Julio Vera could save by the left post. In the 20th minute, Cristian Sancho made a precise shot to the right of Herbert Hilhorst. Verwachting's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 23rd minute of play forced Verwachting's goalkeeper Herbert Hilhorst to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 27th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Herbert Hilhorst saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 29th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Herbert Hilhorst saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 31 minutes into the match, Verwachting's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Herbert Hilhorst reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Verwachting's Herbert Hilhorst played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Felix Montenegro in the 33rd minute of play. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ruud Geels in the 36th minute of play. Adriaan Kuypers kicked well hit freekick during the 37th minute of the match. Herbert Hilhorst took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luis Andino, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 41 played minutes Verwachting got a freekick which was hit by Vincent Koekkoek. Herbert Hilhorst showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Agustín Saelices, who was totally free with the ball in the 44th minute. Cristian Sancho charged in rather forcefully in the 44th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Cristian Sancho the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 44 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Cristian Sancho. After having played for 47 minutes, Twan Hesseling managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Verwachting's supporters crossed their fingers, but Twan Hesseling was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Daniel Zorita to make the kick off. In the 57th minute, Felix Montes hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 58th minute Christijan Schreuder shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 60th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Verwachting. Vincent Koekkoek hit a great freekick 61 minutes into the match. Felix Montenegros short, quick shot in the 65thth minute got Herbert Hilhorst to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 66 minutes into the match, Verwachting's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Herbert Hilhorst reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Antonio Arias kicked well hit freekick during the 67th minute of the match. In the 68th match minute, Verwachting was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Adriaan Kuypers to maneuver through the defense. Herbert Hilhorst made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 70th minute of play. In the 71st minute Twan Hesseling shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 71st minute, Twan Hesseling left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Verwachting fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. 74 minutes into the match, Verwachting's goal looked a bit too open when Luis Andino came free, but Herbert Hilhorst reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Hans Deitmers fell near the penalty area in the 76th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Verwachting's protests and gave Hans Deitmers a yellow card for diving instead. Herbert Hilhorst made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cristian Sancho in the 78th minute. Herbert Hilhorst made a fantastic save in the 81st minute, when Cristian Sancho sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 82 minutes play. Juan Sebastián Puig hit a great ball. Herbert Hilhorst came out of the goal in the 85th minute to try and stop a shot by Ecuador's Daniel Zorita. But to his dismay, Daniel Zorita quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ruud Geels in the 89th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 93rd minute, Ruud Geels left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Verwachting fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-2. Despite being the better team, Ecuador failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
