In the 11th minute, Mariano Lacasa ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Teodoro Peio was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. In the 21st match minute, Chile was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Felix Garrido to maneuver through the defense. Atlético Nacional's Baldomero Rodas shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 22nd minute of play. The shot was stopped by Thiago Pliego but with some difficulty. After a rather tough play, Chile's Francisco Carballar got a free kick in the 23rd minute. Mariano Lacasa might have been able to make a better finish in the 27th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Teodoro Peio. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Mariano Lacasa ran back to his position shaking his head. Gerardo Pozo was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 30 minutes into the match. Teodoro Peio showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Orlando Casaus in the 33rd minute of the match. Teodoro Peio was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. A collision led to Atlético Nacional getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Nemesio Damario hit a great ball. Mariano Lacasa recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 44th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a rather tough play, Chile's Alan Tamayo got a free kick in the 46th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-2.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Orlando Casaus made a kick off. Orlando Casaus could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 54th minute of the match, but Teodoro Peio made a huge save. 58 minutes into the match, Chile's goal looked a bit too open when Carlos Alberto Azevedo came free, but Thiago Pliego reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Thiago Pliego showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Carlos Alberto Azevedo, who was totally free with the ball in the 66th minute. In the 67thth minute of the game Carlos Alberto Azevedo who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Chile's Thiago Pliego was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. With a little luck, Atlético Nacional's Teodoro Peio got control of the ball when Orlando Casaus tried to sneak it across the goal line. Orlando Casaus could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 77th minute of the match, but Teodoro Peio made a huge save. 78 minutes into the match, Chile's goal looked a bit too open when Carlos Alberto Azevedo came free, but Thiago Pliego reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Chile booed when Atlético Nacional was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 84 match minutes in a wonderful position. Nemesio Damario didn't get a good kick on the ball. Guillermo Fontirroig received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute. Teodoro Peio tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Chile's Guillermo Fontirroig got a good chance for a goal in the 88th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Many of Chile's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Chile may have spent more time on the ball, but Atlético Nacional were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
