But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Moises Fernandino couldn't finish the play. When Mateo Leguizamo fell near the penalty area in the 33rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored El Salvador's protests and gave Mateo Leguizamo a yellow card for diving instead. Mateo Leguizamo kicked well hit freekick during the 34th minute of the match. Moises Fernandino's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 39thth minute, Iwo Penczkowski skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Abram Luque sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When Abram Luque came up free with the goalie in the 96th minute, the El Salvador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Abram Luque couldn't finish the play. El Salvador's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
