Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luís Gustavo Pimenta, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 20 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Serafin Cernadas. Agustín Saelices recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 22nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Mesere was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Inko Sagrario didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 26th minute, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Cristian Sancho was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Cai Fei Cheng breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Mesere's Cai Fei Cheng played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 29th minute of play. 34 minutes into the match, Mesere's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Cai Fei Cheng reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Cristian Sancho struck a weak shot in the 39th minute. Cai Fei Cheng didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

After some fancy dribbling in the 90th minute, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot.
