Lautaro Mancebo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 4th minute. Lütfi Soner tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 7 minutes Mexico's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Mónico Bacquet who took care of the corner kick. A collision led to Mexico getting a freekick after 8 minutes play. Lautaro Mancebo hit a great ball. In the 10th minute of the match Mónico Bacquet sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Dante Lacasa skillfully saved the ball. In the 11th minute Joel Gaona shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lütfi Soner saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 14 minutes into the game, Joel Gaona was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Mexico's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Capitala the free kick. Capitala made a substitution. Mugurel Griguță replaced Hamdi Olcaytug. The supporters of Capitala booed when Mexico was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Joel Gaona didn't get a good kick on the ball. The crowd rose to their feet as Capitala's Șerban Culiță slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Dante Lacasa. That made the score 1-0 after 18 minutes of play. After a defensive mix-up in Capitala's zone, Alberto Tafalla stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lütfi Soner came out of the goal and Alberto Tafalla tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Mexico's Dante Lacasa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Șerban Culiță in the 23rd minute of play. 25 minutes into the match, Mexico's goalkeeper Dante Lacasa had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Steffen Breistein. Mexico's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Joel Gaona in the 28th minute. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Capitala's goalie and right to Luca Zorita. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Capitala's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. In the 32nd match minute, Mexico was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Felix Luque to maneuver through the defense. In the 41st minute, Șerban Culiță reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Dante Lacasa. The goal made the score 2-0. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

Lütfi Soner made an important save on a dangerous shot by Lautaro Mancebo in the 51st minute. After a rather tough play, Mexico's Luca Zorita got a free kick in the 52nd minute. Dante Lacasa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Paulo Renato Gaspar in the 61st minute of the match. If Joel Gaona had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 64th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Capitala were furious when Mario Páez was red carded, 65 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. When the match had been going on for 68 minutes, Mexico's Joel Gaona got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Lütfi Soner. Luca Zorita's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Lütfi Soner firmly grabbed it by the left post. Dante Lacasa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Șerban Culiță in the 78th minute of play. Alberto Tafalla could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 82nd minute of the match, but Lütfi Soner made a huge save. In the 89th minute Alberto Tafalla shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lütfi Soner saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 97 played minutes Mexico got a freekick which was hit by Joel Gaona. Despite being the better team, Mexico failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
