UFC STEAUA's defense didn't have a chance, in the 6th minute, when Daniel Zorita scored to the left of an out of position João Massa, making the score, 1-0. In the 11th minute, Daniel Zorita ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. João Massa was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. João Massa made a fantastic save in the 15th minute, when Cristian Sancho sent off a good shot on target. João Massa made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 16th minute. After 17 minutes, Şamil Darcan mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the UFC STEAUA and the Ecuador players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, UFC STEAUA's Şamil Darcan got a free kick in the 17th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 24th minute, Mugur Nisipeanu managed to get in a good position for a shot. UFC STEAUA's supporters rose to their feet, but Mugur Nisipeanu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 27 minutes into the match, UFC STEAUA's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but João Massa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 28 minutes had been played when some careless play by UFC STEAUA's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Agustín Saelices almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but UFC STEAUA's João Massa did a great save. João Massa made a fantastic save in the 30th minute, when Cristian Sancho sent off a good shot on target. UFC STEAUA's João Massa proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 32nd minute of the match, managed to save UFC STEAUA from getting a goal against them. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 37th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without João Massa having to interfere. João Massa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 41st minute of play. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Nelson Mendoza was the one to do the kick off. 51 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Nelson Mendoza came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 54th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but João Massa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Luis Andino sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nelson Mendoza in the 68th minute of play. 69 minutes into the match, Daniel Zorita had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of João Massa. UFC STEAUA's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Daniel Zorita was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-0. João Massa stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Cristian Sancho's shot from short distance in the 72nd minute. When the match clock showed 72 minutes, the score became 5-0 when Cristian Sancho sped through UFC STEAUA's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of João Massa. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 80 minutes play. Antonio Arias hit a great ball. In the last second Julio Vera throw himself and got hold of the ball when Nelson Mendoza in the 81stth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. In the 82nd minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but João Massa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 84 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that João Massa narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Daniel Zorita took the ball and in the 84 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised João Massa. João Massa dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 6-0. Kong Xiang Hao's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Kong Xiang Hao helped the player get up and apologised. Kong Xiang Hao kicked well hit freekick during the 91st minute of the match. In the 92nd minute of the match Daniel Zorita sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but João Massa skillfully saved the ball. After a defensive mix-up in UFC STEAUA's zone, Felix Montenegro stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. João Massa came out of the goal and Felix Montenegro tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nelson Mendoza in the 95th minute of play. Nelson Mendoza who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 95thth minute tested the skills of Julio Vera when he managed to save the team from getting behind. There was no doubt that Ecuador were the better team. Ecuador's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
