But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cristian Sancho couldn't finish the play. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 30th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. In the 32nd minute, Cristian Sancho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Sören Malmberg tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After the first half Ecuador were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Primitivo Andino got a free kick in the 56th minute. The audience was convinced that Liu Chao Xiao's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 61st minute of the game. An unexpectedly hard shot by Liu Chao Xiao in the 67th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 80 minutes, Luis Andino managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Luis Andino was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bogdan Bogdanović in the 84th minute of play. In the 87th minute, Primitivo Andino hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 88th minute, Bogdan Bogdanović got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 91st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Liu Chao Xiao was shown his second yellow card after 95 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. After a rather tough play, Club 23's Liu Chao Xiao got a free kick in the 96th minute. Emanuel Robescu kicked well hit freekick during the 98th minute of the match. Ecuador's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
