The audience thought a goal was coming when Cezary Zurawski got free with Jonathan Ferrant in the 19th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Patricio Costa kicked well hit freekick during the 38th minute of the match. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 45th minute of the match, managed to save Venezuela from getting a goal against them. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

Tomas Illescas did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 2-3 to the left of a surprised Pawel Wodaszak 64 minutes into the match.
