In the 15th minute Joel Gaona suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. Laurín Dundan's late challenge caught a Mexico's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Laurín Dundan helped the player get up and apologised. Mexico made a substitution. Bautista Elvira replaced Joel Gaona. Lautaro Mancebo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ysidro Colimán read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 17th minute of play.
