Ysidro Colimán showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 5th minute. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Daniel Zorita couldn't finish the play. In the 26th minute of the match, Eufrasio Najera tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Julio Vera saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. The wind increased when Eufrasio Najera made the kick off in the second half. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rolando Ortega in the 51st minute of play. When the match had gone on for 52 minutes, Rolando Ortega put it in 1-0 from a short distance just to the right of Julio Vera. Antonio Arias hit a great freekick 56 minutes into the match. The supporters of Deportes Vαldiviα booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 59 match minutes in a wonderful position. Daniel Zorita didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eufrasio Najera in the 73rd minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Rolando Ortega had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 81st minute Luis Andino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ysidro Colimán saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eufrasio Najera in the 84th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Wilfredo Restat had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 95 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Luis Andino. The Deportes Vαldiviα support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
