Jonathan Ferrant made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. In the 8th minute, Patricio Costa ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Henrik Belkå was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. 16 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jacinto Pinto. The Wild Bunch's Henrik Belkå played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tomas Illescas in the 17th minute of play. Henrik Belkå took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tomas Illescas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 21st minute of the match Venezuela got a corner. The supporters of The Wild Bunch booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jose Correa didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 28th minute, Sture Bergqvist managed to get in a good position for a shot. Jonathan Ferrant breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Sture Bergqvist fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere. 42 minutes into the game, Venezuela's Patricio Costa nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Henrik Belkå made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. When the match clock showed 45 minutes, the score became 2-2 when Alvar Sellberg sped through Venezuela's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Jonathan Ferrant.
