In the 41st match minute, Ashley Down Athletic was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ruben Higginson to maneuver through the defense. Julio Vera was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Ed Helks showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 2-1 in the 47 minute of play. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Cristian Sancho stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Matthew Macken stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Matthew Macken tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 58th minute Ed Helks shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ruben Higginson in the 60th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Felix Montenegro came free with the goalkeeper in the 62nd minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Roberto Estevon could save by the left post. Ashley Down Athletic's Vern Hatcher was substituted for Feliciano Stephen. A nice corner shot did that Ruben Higginson got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Julio Vera quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. After having played for 66 minutes, Matthew Macken managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ashley Down Athletic's supporters crossed their fingers, but Matthew Macken was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Roberto Estevon took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Agustín Saelices, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Felix Montenegro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ed Helks in the 83rd minute of play. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Ashley Down Athletic was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 88 match minutes in a wonderful position. Les Tinker didn't get a good kick on the ball.
