Spectators: 49 (Terracing: 38, Seating: 11, VIP seats: 0) Monitor Huáscar's Claudio Quiroga started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 5th minute. Apostol Sokolov tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 9th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Claudio Quiroga in the 11th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 14th minute, Claudio Quiroga managed to get in a good position for a shot. Monitor Huáscar's supporters rose to their feet, but Claudio Quiroga was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Felix Montes made in the 16th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Felix Montenegro immediately put the ball in play. In the 20th match minute, Monitor Huáscar was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marcelo Illanes to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Agustín Saelices in the 25th minute of play forced Monitor Huáscar's goalkeeper Apostol Sokolov to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Claudio Quiroga scored 0-1 in the 29th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Julio Vera, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After having played for 36 minutes, Paulo Fallabes managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Monitor Huáscar's supporters crossed their fingers, but Paulo Fallabes was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 37 minutes of play, Monitor Huáscar's Claudio Quiroga made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Julio Vera was left in no man's land by his defense there! 40 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Paulo Fallabes came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Claudio Quiroga recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 44th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Claudio Quiroga, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Daniel Zorita was the one to do the kick off. 60 minutes into the match, Monitor Huáscar's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Apostol Sokolov reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Monitor Huáscar's Bernardinho Bala was substituted for Artemio Varas. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Claudio Quiroga's shot from short distance in the 64th minute. With his leg Julio Vera managed to avoid a goal in the 67thth minute, when Monitor Huáscar's Claudio Quiroga fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. 70 minutes into the match, Monitor Huáscar's Claudio Quiroga sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Monitor Huáscar was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 72 match minutes in a wonderful position. Paulo Fallabes didn't get a good kick on the ball. 73 minutes into the match, Monitor Huáscar's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Apostol Sokolov reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 77 minutes into the match, Monitor Huáscar's Claudio Quiroga sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 78 minutes Ecuador's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Modestio Cañucal who took care of the corner kick. A well-hit corner resulted in Paulo Fallabes heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. The Ecuador manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Monitor Huáscar to win.
