Spectators: 45 (Terracing: 35, Seating: 10, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Montevideo's defense didn't have a chance, in the 18th minute, when Cristian Sancho scored to the left of an out of position Ronaldo Medeiros, making the score, 1-1. In the 22nd minute Luisito Antequera shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ronaldo Medeiros showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 25th minute. After some careless play in the Montevideo defense, Cristian Sancho kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ronaldo Medeiros. The Montevideo fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ronaldo Medeiros should have stopped the shot. The referee felt a red card was in order, 28 minutes into the game, when Zeca de Alcântara put in a rough tackle. Zeca de Alcântara kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. Ronaldo Medeiros showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. If Luisito Antequera had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 36th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ronaldo Medeiros saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 37 minutes into the match, Montevideo's Christian Passos sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Ronaldo Medeiros made an important save on a dangerous shot by Felix Montenegro in the 46th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-1.

A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Agustín Saelices hit a great ball. 56 minutes into the match, Montevideo's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Ronaldo Medeiros reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A throw-in in the 61st minute of the game was made by Daniel Zorita with Cristian Sancho as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 65th minute of play forced Montevideo's goalkeeper Ronaldo Medeiros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Luisito Antequera sent away a hard shot on goal in the 86th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ronaldo Medeiros made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 88th minute of play. After 94 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Daniel Zorita. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Ecuador had played much better football throughout.
