USA's Marco Day played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Taras Romanchuk in the 35th minute of play. Daniel Rodrigues kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. A collision led to USA getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Diego Bradley hit a great ball. After having played for 42 minutes, Juninho Pernambucano managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Fundação Marques dos Reis's supporters crossed their fingers, but Juninho Pernambucano was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Taras Romanchuk made a kick off. In the 53rd minute Fundação Marques dos Reis were awarded a corner. Wesly Goemyne went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner went over the outstretched arms of USA's goalie and right to Juninho Pernambucano. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. USA's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. With a little luck, Fundação Marques dos Reis's Yao Bin Yun got control of the ball when Cassius Byrne tried to sneak it across the goal line. Yao Bin Yun made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cassius Byrne in the 67th minute.
