After 21 minutes of play, Goiás Esporte Clube's Marcus Diniz made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Jonathan Ferrant was left in no man's land by his defense there! An unexpectedly hard shot by Marcus Diniz in the 24th minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 26 played minutes Venezuela got a freekick which was hit by Tomas Illescas. 29 minutes into the match, Goiás Esporte Clube's goalkeeper Natanael Paraense had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Tomas Illescas. The audience was convinced that Marcus Diniz's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jonathan Ferrant was relentless in the 37th minute of the game. After a defensive mix-up in Venezuela's zone, Dênis Faria stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jonathan Ferrant came out of the goal and Dênis Faria tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 46th minute, Marcus Diniz ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jonathan Ferrant was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. After the first half Goiás Esporte Clube were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Tomas Illescas made the kick off in the second half. Jonathan Ferrant made an important save on a dangerous shot by Marcus Diniz in the 53rd minute. Venezuela's Patricio Costa got a good chance for a goal in the 54th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Goiás Esporte Clube's Marcus Diniz was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 63rd play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. Natanael Paraense made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tomas Illescas in the 66th minute of play. Marcus Diniz received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Jonathan Ferrant came out and tried to block the shot, but Marcus Diniz slotted it home off the left post making it 0-4 in the 68th minute. Marcus Diniz could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 71st minute of the match, but Jonathan Ferrant made a huge save. 75 minutes into the game, Marcus Diniz cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-5. Jonathan Ferrant was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. With a little luck, Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant got control of the ball when Marcus Diniz tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Umberto Peres had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Natanael Paraense took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tomas Illescas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rigoberto Mina kicked well hit freekick during the 85th minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Valdir Neves got free with Jonathan Ferrant in the 87th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Jonathan Ferrant showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marcus Diniz, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. After a rather tough play, Venezuela's Guillermo Mariano got a free kick in the 91st minute. Valdir Neves blasted a shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jonathan Ferrant having to make a save. Goiás Esporte Clube played a much better game than Venezuela and deserved their victory. The Venezuela players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
