An unexpectedly hard shot by Luiz Fábio Tepedino in the 20th minute of play forced Uruguay's goalkeeper Joaquin Gayoso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Maximiliano Escribano sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Telmo Carneiro charged in rather forcefully in the 37th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Telmo Carneiro the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 37th minute, Telmo Carneiro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Francisco Seco's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nilton Sena read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 42nd minute of play. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Francisco Seco made the kick off in the second half. Walmir Mangueira kicked well hit freekick during the 50th minute of the match. 52 minutes into the match, Maximiliano Escribano notched a goal, 2-0, to the right of Chester Bennington's Nilton Sena. Nilton Sena was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 57th minute, Camilo Franco hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Uruguay's Maximiliano Escribano got a good chance for a goal in the 60th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 65th minute Maximiliano Escribano shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nilton Sena saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Alberto Gisbert had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nestor Vinhas in the 69th minute of play forced Uruguay's goalkeeper Joaquin Gayoso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Jaime Cazalla had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With 76 minutes on the clock, Jeremias Castro commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. When the match had gone on for 79 minutes, Francisco Seco put it in 3-0 from a short distance just to the right of Nilton Sena. 82 minutes into the game, Nestor Vinhas cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-1. Joaquin Gayoso was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Nestor Vinhas recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 84th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Francisco Seco scored 4-1 in the 87th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Nilton Sena, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When Maximiliano Escribano came up free with the goalie in the 91st minute, the Uruguay fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Maximiliano Escribano couldn't finish the play. After having played for 96 minutes, Francisco Seco managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Uruguay's supporters crossed their fingers, but Francisco Seco was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
