Apolo Chica made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 22nd minute of play. The audience was convinced that Daniel Zorita's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Apolo Chica was relentless in the 26th minute of the game. In the 30th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Apolo Chica saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. But to his dismay, Cristian Sancho quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Thanks to some nice moves Chorche Viya could shoot a difficult shot in the 37th minute, which Julio Vera however easily saved by the left post. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

In the 55th minute of the game Primitivo Andino made a throw-in which Felix Montenegro played forward. Alex Pedrera scored 1-1 in the 58th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Julio Vera, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Froilan Romillo in the 63rd minute of play. Luis Andino received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Apolo Chica tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. La Vieja Guardia Jrs made a substitution. Dunixi Cendan replaced Isias Cembrana. Chorche Viya fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in La Vieja Guardia Jrs's zone, Cristian Sancho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Apolo Chica came out of the goal and Cristian Sancho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 82 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Dunixi Cendan came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. La Vieja Guardia Jrs made a substitution. Maore Astiago replaced Froilan Romillo. La Vieja Guardia Jrs were awarded a corner in the 85th minute after Ecuador's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Joshua Kimmich took the corner. 92 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Chorche Viya came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Chorche Viya, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Despite being the better team, Ecuador failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
