In the 12th minute, 杜光钢 got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when 杜光钢 got free with Benito Sanz in the 13th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Benito Sanz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from 杜光钢 went, in the 17th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-0 was the resulting score. When the match clock showed 21 minutes, the score became 3-0 when 杜光钢 sped through Costa Rica's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Benito Sanz. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when 杜光钢 made the kick off in the second half.
