After 47 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Ecuador! In the 50th minute of the match Carqueja got a corner. Ecuador's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Mario Vielva ran over to the corner to take the kick. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Oliverio Cavallosa in the 58th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. In the 64th match minute, Carqueja was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sandaili Trevijano to maneuver through the defense. In the 66th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Felix Montenegro to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Carqueja was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 69 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ereinotz Masbernat didn't get a good kick on the ball. 77 minutes into the game, Elizardo Massana cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-0. Cordairo Segura was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. In the 95th minute Tiago Zotillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tiago Zotillo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 97th minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
