With a little luck, Chile's Thiago Pliego got control of the ball when Florian Cavallaro tried to sneak it across the goal line. 11 minutes into the match, Chile's Mariano Lacasa sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Attilio Marzoli narrowly saved just below the crossbar. A collision led to Verbano FC getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Yu Sheng hit a great ball. In the 15th minute Orlando Casaus shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Attilio Marzoli saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 17th minute, Francisco Carballar ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Attilio Marzoli was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. Attilio Marzoli showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Xavier Figueroa in the 19th minute of the match. Mariano Lacasa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Attilio Marzoli having to interfere. 24 minutes into the match, Guillermo Fontirroig had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Attilio Marzoli. Verbano FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Guillermo Fontirroig was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. In the 27th minute, Francisco Carballar hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Mariano Lacasa's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Attilio Marzoli read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 31st minute of play. Mariano Lacasa received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 33rd minute. Attilio Marzoli tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Mariano Lacasa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Attilio Marzoli was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Martyon Brading to make the kick off. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Mariano Lacasa in the 54th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Attilio Marzoli prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Thiago Pliego took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Martyon Brading, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Chile booed when Verbano FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 60 match minutes in a wonderful position. Yu Sheng didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 63rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Verbano FC's goalkeeper Attilio Marzoli, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Mariano Lacasa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 66th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 66th minute the ball was on its way in behind Verbano FC's goalkeeper Attilio Marzoli, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Mariano Lacasa got free with Attilio Marzoli in the 67th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After some careless play in the Verbano FC defense, Mariano Lacasa kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Attilio Marzoli. The Verbano FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Attilio Marzoli should have stopped the shot. 72 minutes into the match, Chile's Mariano Lacasa sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Attilio Marzoli narrowly saved just below the crossbar. When Mariano Lacasa came up free with the goalie in the 74th minute, the Chile fans jumped to their feet. In the 81st match minute, Verbano FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Yu Sheng to maneuver through the defense. Ermanno Bencivenni's late challenge caught a Chile's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ermanno Bencivenni helped the player get up and apologised. Attilio Marzoli didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Mariano Lacasa went, in the 88th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-7 was the resulting score. Mariano Lacasa struck a weak shot in the 91st minute. Attilio Marzoli didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Chile. The Chile supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Chile would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
