Spectators: 40 (Terracing: 31, Seating: 9, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Joachim Hägg started the match with the kick off. Ricardo Zorita took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mattias Kilman, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Florin Dorlea took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Moises Fernandino, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 13th minute, IFK Göteborg's Joachim Hägg ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Ricardo Zorita. Ricardo Zorita yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. 17 minutes into the game, Kent Löfkvist was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. IFK Göteborg's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave El Salvador the free kick. In the 17th minute, Kent Löfkvist hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 20th minute, El Salvador's Marco Tamayo seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Marco Tamayo the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of El Salvador protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Marco Tamayo had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. After 19 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for El Salvador! The referee gave IFK Göteborg a penalty, 22 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Manfred Valström, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of El Salvador's Ricardo Zorita. 2-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Moises Fernandino in the 36th minute of play forced IFK Göteborg's goalkeeper Florin Dorlea to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 44th minute Moises Fernandino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Florin Dorlea saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Florin Dorlea showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Moises Fernandino, who was totally free with the ball in the 46th minute. Jens-Ove Lindkvist charged in rather forcefully in the 48th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jens-Ove Lindkvist the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of El Salvador booed when IFK Göteborg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 48 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jens-Ove Lindkvist didn't get a good kick on the ball. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Moises Fernandino was the one to do the kick off. In the 59th minute, Torsten Petersson got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Mateo Leguizamo during the 61st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Ricardo Zorita took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vitaliy Krylatov, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 69th match minute, El Salvador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mateo Leguizamo to maneuver through the defense. El Salvador's Ricardo Zorita played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Torsten Petersson in the 75th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Moises Fernandino got free with Florin Dorlea in the 80th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 83 played minutes El Salvador got a freekick which was hit by Valentino Ferrant. Torsten Petersson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 88th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 91st minute, Torsten Petersson ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ricardo Zorita was frozen by the shot and now it was 4-0. Florin Dorlea made a fantastic save in the 96th minute, when Moises Fernandino sent off a good shot on target. IFK Göteborg's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
