After 22 played minutes IFK Göteborg got a freekick which was hit by Torsten Petersson. After a rather tough play, Paraguay's Juan Diego Tenorio got a free kick in the 27th minute. Jacobo Nores made a fantastic save in the 30th minute, when Torsten Petersson sent off a good shot on target. After a defensive mix-up in Paraguay's zone, Vitaliy Krylatov stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jacobo Nores came out of the goal and Vitaliy Krylatov tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to Paraguay getting a freekick after 35 minutes play. Primitivo Escribano hit a great ball. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Jaime Pardo was the one to do the kick off. When Mattias Kilman fell near the penalty area in the 53rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored IFK Göteborg's protests and gave Mattias Kilman a yellow card for diving instead. After 54 played minutes IFK Göteborg got a freekick which was hit by Jens-Ove Lindkvist. Mattias Kilman got his second yellow card in the match during the 61st minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joachim Hägg in the 65th minute of play forced Paraguay's goalkeeper Jacobo Nores to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Juan Diego Tenorio received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Florin Dorlea came out and tried to block the shot, but Juan Diego Tenorio slotted it home off the left post making it 0-1 in the 69th minute. When Jaime Pardo came up free with the goalie in the 72nd minute, the Paraguay fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jaime Pardo couldn't finish the play. After having played for 73 minutes, Jens-Ove Lindkvist managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. IFK Göteborg's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jens-Ove Lindkvist was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The throw-in from Ove Lövkvist in the 82nd minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Paraguay's Alan Campos. Jacobo Nores made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joachim Hägg in the 92nd minute of play.
