In the 6th minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. LATIUM's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alfonso Giovannelli in the 26th minute of the match. An unexpected shot in the 30th minute by Amerigo Buffone got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Alfonso Giovannelli got free with Julio Vera in the 35th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.
