It was Daniel Zorita who took care of the corner kick. In the 46th minute, Jean-Cyrille Demoulin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. PSG FC's Mickaël Landreau played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Felix Montenegro in the 48th minute of play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Martin Idsøe in the 51st minute of play. When David Asserlindh fell near the penalty area in the 55th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored PSG FC's protests and gave David Asserlindh a yellow card for diving instead. In the 55th match minute, PSG FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by David Asserlindh to maneuver through the defense. Mickaël Landreau made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cristian Sancho in the 60th minute. After 79 played minutes, PSG FC's Martin Idsøe shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Julio Vera came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in PSG FC reached it. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mickaël Landreau showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. 90 minutes into the game, Laurent Rouille was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. PSG FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ecuador the free kick.
